What do you say when you are at loss for words? It reminded me of Revelation 8:1 — “When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.” I wonder what happened in that half hour? Maybe the whole earth was reminded,
“ Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Keep silence and hear, O Israel: this day you have become the people of the LORD your God” Deuteronomy 27:9
It is a wonderful moment when we come to know Jesus as our savior. In that moment we understand that the Lord is our God and we should — Psalms 62:5 “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” There are other moments as well; like the ones we are in right now where we might cry out to God, “ Psalms 83:1 “O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!”
It is tough to wait on the Lord, but when we do we learn, Ecclesiastes 3:7 there is a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence.” It is in that silence we learn our place before an almighty God.
There is this passage from Ecclesiastes that would good for us to remember, Ecclesiastes 5:2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.
For whatever reason there is half an hour of silence in Revelation 8:1, no one will dare speak out of place. No Ill willed words. No passive aggressive quips. No exclamatory phrases. Not one word of excuse or anything self – congratulatory. If there are any word to escape the observers lips, it will be praise. In The presence of Jesus the heart can only stand 30 minutes of silence before it breaks forth and spills out in worship. I’m just ………shhhh.
